Delaware County Technical School

The Delaware County Technical School (DCTS) provides career and technical programs for high school students. Haverford High School students attend their technical programs for blocks one and two, and then return to Haverford High School for blocks three and four. Students from Haverford High School typically enter these programs in the 11th grade and often attend for two years. They receive four elective credits for their work at the technical school each year. This career and technical training can lead to employment or post-secondary education after graduation.

• First consideration for space in programs will be granted to students with completed applications submitted by February 27th.
• To gain admission to a technical program, applicants must meet DCTS admission criteria in relations to grades, attendance, discipline, and career readiness.
• Since many programs fill to capacity quickly, applications received after February 28th will be considered based on available space in programs.

The Medical Careers program is a full-year, honors-level, Delaware County Technical School program that is available for students in their senior year. It is geared toward students who are interested in pursuing medical careers in college. In this program, the hospital becomes the classroom and students will travel to local hospitals and rotate through various departments.

The curriculum is divided into three areas: academics, patient care skills and clinical rotations. The academics include anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, safety, infection control and legal/ ethical issues. From November to May the students spend two class periods per week in clinical rotations shadowing and observing patient care and three days in classes.

The Medical Careers students leave Haverford High School at 6:30 every morning and travel to their assigned hospital. These students will not be scheduled for a first block class at HHS and will return to HHS during homeroom, at approximately 9:10 am.

Students interested in participating in this program need to have a grade point average of at least a 3.0, and have a good attendance and disciplinary record. Spaces in the program are very limited and not all students who apply are accepted.  

January 31, 2025 Medical Careers Presentation 

The application for the 12th-grade Medical Careers Program for the 2026-2027 school year is now open.

• Students must complete an online application to the Delaware County Technical School (DCTS).
• The 12th Grade Medical Careers Program also has a supplemental application that needs to be completed and  returned to Katie Jones, HHS Technical School Liaison Counselor, by the end of the school day on February 27th.
• The 12th Grade Medical Careers Program may require a virtual interview of a potential student.
• The online application and the supplemental application must be completed by the end of the school day on Friday, February 27th.
